Lauren Blackwell

Globetrotters, Science, Art

Lauren Blackwell is a watercolor artist, singer, and teacher living in Washington, DC.

She took her first watercolor lesson in high school at a community arts center and now enjoys introducing others to the wonderful world of watercolor through her platform, Art with Lauren, where she hosts live online classes, workshops, and YouTube tutorials.

Before painting full-time, Lauren worked as an educator at the Life and Science Museum in Durham, NC, where she taught a range of science topics in a “hands-on, learn-by-doing environment” and loves combining science and art in the art room.

Lauren believes that play is an important aspect of learning for all ages, and strives to make watercolor a fun and engaging environment for cultivating creativity, curiosity and wellness.

During COVID, Lauren began painting every day as a way to practice mindfulness and self-care, and is on a mission to help others tap into their creativity and find meaning through the arts.

In her hometown of Raleigh, NC, Lauren helped create the city’s most popular “paint and sip” workshop, Brush the Skyline, a relaxing event in painting the city skyline at a local favorite restaurant and brewery. She was featured in Visit Raleigh’s “Things to Do in Raleigh” summer series and has led watercolor workshops for beginners all over the area.
