Pious Honny was born in Ghana, where he studied at the University of Ghana -Legon. His love of music brought him across the ocean to the United States of America, where he studied piano pedagogy with Dr. Mary Tollefson for his Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. While studying in the Midwest, he gained a wealth of experience working with concert bands, churches and schools, as well as accompanying the University of Wisconsin concert choir under the direction of Dr.Gary Walth.
Pious has performed and presented workshops both in the United States and internationally, including France, Germany, and Ghana. He composes and plays a variety of music including Classical, African Piano music, Ragtime, Blues, Jazz and many others. Out of many high notes, Pious was granted the extreme privilege and honor to play Johann Sebastian Bach’s organ in Germany, an opportunity afforded to only a handful of talented musicians.
Mr Pious brings an infectious enthusiasm for all things piano and all things Ghana. He starts with the basics of reading musical rhythms and works up quickly to playing songs spanning two octaves; he goes to the highest level of musicianship and tutors advanced students to take the prestigious ABRSM exams. He introduces a select set of students to their first professional gigs, playing at area events.
