KATIE STEVENSON began violin lessons with Susan McCoy using the Suzuki method at age five. It wasn’t until she was in high school when she realized that she wanted to have a career in music. During her college years, Katie studied with Misha Rosenker, Jonathan Sturm and Julie McGinnis. Stevenson graduated from Drake University (Des Moines, Iowa) with a Bachelor’s of Music Performance on violin with minors on cello and piano. Katie attended the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point and Capital University (Columbus, Ohio) and earned certification to teach Suzuki Violin.
During her musical career, Katie has performed in several orchestras including the Iowa All-State Orchestra, North Iowa Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Musicians’ Orchestra and the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra. One of Katie’s priorities is to pass on the love of music to others, either through playing the violin or teaching music. For many years, Katie enjoyed teaching violin students between the ages 3 to adult and everyday Katie made Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s quote a priority in her teaching style. “Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.”
