Lower Elementary Academy (Grades 2-4)

This is a one-day per week, 4.5-hour drop-off program for students that runs from 9:30 am – 2:00 pm. The parent is NOT required to stay on campus during this time.  All teachers have had a background check completed and are fully vaccinated. We cover literature, art, music and movement, and science with the students. They eat a home-packed nut-free lunch and have lots of outside recess time. We run this program on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays. You choose the day that works best for you. Students are dropped off in our kiss-and-ride line and picked up at the end of the day in the same manner. Caregivers never need to leave their car!

  • Literature
    • Chapter books will be read at home prior to class (the child can read on their own or a parent can read to them). Class time will be similar to a book club with discussions, small group activities, and individual reflection. The following books will be read slowly as enjoyable supplements for your student’s education this semester.
      • Heartwood Hotel by Kallie George and Stephanie Graegin. When Mona the Mouse stumbles across the wondrous world of the Heartwood Hotel in the middle of a storm, she desperately hopes they’ll let her stay. As it turns out, Mona is precisely the maid they need at the grandest hotel in Fernwood Forest, where animals come from far and wide for safety, luxury, and comfort. But the Heartwood Hotel is not all acorn soufflés and soft moss-lined beds. Danger lurks, and as it approaches, Mona finds that this hotel is more than a warm place to spend the night. It might also be a home.
      • Prairie Thief by Melissa Wiley.  Louisa Brody’s life on the Colorado prairie is not at all what she expected. Her dear Pa, accused of thievery, is locked thirty miles away in jail. She’s living with the awful Smirches, her closest neighbors and the very family that accused her Pa of the horrendous crime. And now she’s discovered one very cantankerous—and magical—secret beneath the hazel grove. With her life flipped upside-down, it’s up to Louisa, her sassy friend Jessamine, and that cranky secret to save Pa from a guilty verdict.
  • Science –The Physical World Around Us
    • We will spend our year delving into topics that students encounter every day. This semester will start us out with matter and momentum, force and friction. We will see these things in action, try them out for ourselves, and even conduct experiments at home to present in class.
  • Art – Hands-on Art
    • This semester will take us on another exciting romp through different art media and movements.  We will learn about different artists, dabbling in their styles and many 2D and 3D art forms.
  • Journey From Past to Present
    • Come along on a creative journey to discover people and places of the past and present. We will fly across the globe to experience the art, culture, history, and geography of ancient civilizations as well as those of today. We’ll do this through a variety of art media, games, imagination, and fun!

Minimum Required Enrollment: 7
