Lower Elementary Academy (Grades 2-4)

This is a one-day per week, 4.5-hour drop-off program for students that runs from 9:30 am – 2:00 pm. The parent is NOT required to stay on campus during this time.  All teachers have had a background check completed and are fully vaccinated. We cover literature, art, music and movement, and science with the students. They eat a home-packed nut-free lunch and have lots of outside recess time. We run this program on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays. You choose the day that works best for you. Students are dropped off in our kiss-and-ride line and picked up at the end of the day in the same manner. Caregivers never need to leave their car!

  • Literature
    • Chapter books will be read at home prior to class (the child can read on their own or a parent can read to them). Class time will be similar to a book club with discussions, small group activities, and individual reflection. The following books will be read slowly as enjoyable supplements for your student’s education this semester.
      • Prairie Thief by Melissa Wiley, ISBN-13: 978-1442440579.  Louisa Brody’s life on the Colorado prairie is not at all what she expected. Her dear Pa, accused of thievery, is locked thirty miles away in jail. She’s living with the awful Smirches, her closest neighbors, and the very family that accused her Pa of the horrendous crime. And now she’s discovered one very cantankerous—and magical—secret beneath the hazel grove. With her life flipped upside-down, it’s up to Louisa, her sassy friend Jessamine, and that cranky secret to save Pa from a guilty verdict.
      • Dragons in a Bag by Zetta Elliott, ISBN-13‏:‎ 978-1524770488. When Jaxon is sent to spend the day with a mean old lady his mother calls Ma, he finds out she’s not his grandmother–but she is a witch! She needs his help delivering baby dragons to a magical world where they’ll be safe. There are two rules when it comes to the dragons: don’t let them out of the bag, and don’t feed them anything sweet. Before he knows it, Jax and his friends Vikram and Kavita have broken both rules! Will Jax get the baby dragons delivered safe and sound? Or will they be lost in Brooklyn forever?
      • Mindy Kim and the Yummy Seaweed Business, by Lyla Lee, ISBN-13: 978-1534440074: Mindy Kim just wants three things: 1. A puppy!, 2. To fit in at her new school, 3. For her dad to be happy again. But, getting all three of the things on her list is a lot trickier than she thought it would be. On her first day of school, Mindy’s school snack of dried seaweed isn’t exactly popular at the lunch table. Luckily, her new friend, Sally, makes the snacks seem totally delicious to Mindy’s new classmates, so they decide to start the Yummy Seaweed Business to try and raise money for that puppy! When another student decides to try and sabotage their business, Mindy loses more than she bargained for—and wonders if she’ll ever fit in. Will Mindy be able to overcome her uncertainty and find the courage to be herself?
  • Science –The Physical World Around Us
    • We will spend our year delving into topics that students encounter every day. This semester will start us out with matter and momentum, force and friction. We will see these things in action, try them out for ourselves, and even conduct experiments at home to present in class.
  • Art – Hands-on Art
    • This semester will take us on another exciting romp through different art media and movements.  We will learn about different artists, dabbling in their styles and many 2D and 3D art forms.
  • Journey From Past to Present
    • Come along on a creative journey to discover people and places of the past and present. We will fly across the globe to experience the art, culture, history, and geography of ancient civilizations as well as those of today. We’ll do this through a variety of art media, games, imagination, and fun!
