Students will explore the events that transpired after World War II, changing from world history to the United States and back. Starting with the issue of containment, moving to the Korean conflict, then on to the prosperity of the 1950s in the United States, the start of the Civil Rights movement, and back to Asia with the conflict of Vietnam and US Foreign Policy.

Students will explore the events that transpired after World War II, changing from world history to the United States and back. Starting with the issue of containment, moving to the Korean conflict, then on to the prosperity of the 1950s in the United States, the start of the Civil Rights movement, and back to Asia with the conflict of Vietnam and US Foreign Policy. We will explore the development of the United Nations and its effect on the world’s stage. Learning about Africa, South Africa, and Latin America, students will learn about Gandhi and non-violent resistance, the reunification of Germany, the dissolving of the USSR, changes in culture in the United States, and the emergence of the Middle East.
Handouts and emailed documents will be provided. Class participation is a must, as all reading assignments will be expected to be completed before we meet again as a class. There will be questions assigned for each reading, along with short essay-based thought questions. A research project (not a paper) will be assigned for the end of the year. This is the first semester of a full-year high school class.
