Fundamentals of Music Theory and Musicianship 1
Teacher: Pious Honny
Music is fun! And understanding the fundamentals of music theory gives students a base for playing all kinds of music. In this class, I use a mixture of a piano keyboard, drums, flashcards and other media to engage students and start their path to becoming a musician.
This class follows the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) music theory curriculum to give students a thorough understanding of the building blocks of music. We start with the basics of rhythm and notes and go on to cover harmony and counterpoint, composition, and a broad knowledge of western music, including composers and their works, structure, style and period.
Students will be prepared to take the ABRSM’s Music Theory exam, Level 1, after four quarters of study. This is optional at an additional cost and can be arranged directly with the instructor. ABRSM is accredited by Ofqual to award graded exams and diploma qualifications in music. More than 600,000 candidates take ABRSM exams each year in over 93 countries
